Cartagena’s Wacky World Of Electrics

Cartagena has many beautiful buildings, both old and modern, yet no-one has yet succeeded in getting the local electricity company to play ball in improving the look of the streets.

The historic facades of buildings are being restored and local laws now require all wiring to be concealed in new buildings.  But when it comes to bringing the power to those buildings, anything goes.  Cables are strung everywhere, hoisted on poles, suspended across pavements and nailed in bunches in mad spaghetti jumbles.

It must all be safe, as there don’t appear to be any fires or disasters caused by this system, but it certainly gives an odd look to some of the more elegant structures of the city.

end.
