Try Some Desert Island Cruising

Two Brutes

By Phillip Bruce

Argument continues to rage about which is the ugliest building in Cartagena.  There is a lot of support for the title going to one of the two hideous blocks that face the newly-restored town hall, with a more elegant building sandwiched in between.

However, there are many supporters for the award of the title to buildings in the Puerta de Murcia at the heart of the old city.

At one end the brutal monstrosity that houses a branch of Barclays bank completely destroys the streetscape.  At the other end visitors and residents have to avert their eyes when looking at the wonderful Gran Via hotel in all its splendour - so as not to feel bilious at the sight of the building opposite.
