Projector of Dreams

By Phillip Bruce

The Teatro Circo has long been at the heart of the entertainment scene in Cartagena.

The theatre isn’t very grand and has an undistinguished frontage that is easily missed.  For many years it was a cinema, although now many plays and concerts are staged there.  The theatre is located in Calle Tolosa Latour, which runs off the colourful traffic roundabout at the top end of the pedestrianised Calle Carmen.

In the foyer, next to the bar, there is a fine old cinema projector that must have shown all the old classics in its time and raised the spirits of local people.  The projector was presented to the theatre by the big energy company, Repsol, as a recognition of Cartagena’s International Festival of Films about the Navy and the Sea.  This is said to be the only festival of its type in the world.

No maker’s name can be seen on the big projector.
