Old Hat Shop In New Location

One of Cartagena’s landmark shops has moved.  The Sanchez hat shop can now be found in an old building in Calle Cañon, very close to the newly-restored old town hall.

The shop had to move from its previous site, described in another article on this site.  The reason was that building was damaged by bombardment in the Civil War and it had become increasingly unstable.  Sadly, the shop, which has been keeping people looking smart from at least the 1920s had to move.

The new shop is very easy to find, however, and Sanchez remains the place to pick up a genuine Panama, a Derby or a jaunty cap. This is also the place to pick up medals and ribbons.  Historic items decorate the shelves, such as an antique typewriter, an old radio and a wooden submarine model.

Right next door is a jewellery repair shop while across the street the popular VIPs bar and restaurant can be found.
