Try Some Desert Island Cruising

Climb A Murcia Mountain

The area around Cartagena has many soaring cliffs and sheer faces and in the mountains in the north of the region of Murcia there are many more challenges to be found.

If these faces were in Britain or northern Europe they would be covered like flies with crowds of climbers but they remain almost undiscovered by foreign enthusiasts.

Climbing is growing in popularity, however, and there are probably about 140 routes that have been formally graded with degrees of difficulty.  Amongst the places that climbers head for are Cresta del Gallo, Pico de La Panocha and Las Paredes de Leiva, in the Sierra Espuña.

For more information contact the Federación de Montañismo de la Región de Murcia, C/. Francisco Martínez Garcia, 4 bajo, Murcia. Telephone 968 340 270. email: fmrm@fmrm.net
