Cartagena Wins League Cartagena’s football team, the Albinegras have won their league championship this year, to the delight of fans including many foreigners who loyally follow games. The team came out well ahead at the top of the Second Division B League, the first time they have done so in 14 years. The team’s 2-1 triumph over Tomelloso secured their top position. During the season the Albinegras, or FC Cartagena, have won 21 games, drawn 14 and only lost three. They scored 49 goals and conceded 15. English-speaking supporters usually gather in the bar at the stadium an hour or so before home games, which are usually played on Sunday evenings. The team’s nickname Albinegras, or the “black and whites,” comes from their shirt colours. We’re also trying to find out where you can buy these shirts. The second division of the Spanish professional league is divided into A and B sections, which relate to geographical location and not to rankings. Anyone supporting Cartagena can look forward to interesting away games which include trips to the Spanish enclaves in North Africa. For more information on the club call Steve Hibberd, on 656 579 423.
