Giant Floating Crane Beached

On a roundabout near the fish market at Santa Lucia on the Cartagena waterfront a giant crane stands in the middle or a roundabout.

For many years this was a familiar site in the harbour as it was mounted on a barge and it floated around the harbour doing all sorts of tasks.

Now it has come ashore and stands as a dramatic reminder of Cartagena’s industrial and maritime past.

Another reminder of port traditions can be seen at night when friendly ladies parade around the roundabout and are delighted to chat with the male drivers of passing cars.  Perhaps they are discussing the crane.

Another, much smaller rail-mounted, crane can be seen on a roundabout in the industrial area of Escombreras.
