Try Some Desert Island Cruising

Elegant Home For Fiesta

By Phillip Bruce

Cartagena broke away from the rest of Spain in the early 1870s and the resulting siege and bombardment by centralist forces left only a couple of dozen buildings undamaged in the whole city.

This gave a great opportunity for erecting fancy buildings on the newly, and unexpectedly, cleared ground.

One of these is a fine building, the Casa Moreno, designed by architect Carlos Mancha, and finished in 1877.

Today the Casa Moreno, in Calle Caridad, is the home of the administration offices of the big Carthaginians and Romans festival that is held each September.
