Try Some Desert Island Cruising

Any Old Iron

By Phillip Bruce

Cartagena’s wealth down the centuries was largely founded upon the metals that were mined from the range of hills that runs away to the east of the city.

Naturally, therefore, metals feature heavily in the decorative art of the buildings of the city.  Zinc domes are a particular feature of late 19th century and early 20th century homes built by the rich families that owned the mines.

Ironwork is another very beautiful form of ornamentation, used in flowing forms.
