Try Some Desert Island Cruising

An Ancient Lighthouse

In contrast with the regional capital, Murcia City, there are few reminders of the times when Cartagena was under Islamic control.

Murcia City was actually founded by the Muslims in 825 and Cartagena people have never really got used to the idea of power being transferred there away from their ancient port.  Today there are loud calls for Cartagena to be made a proper province separated from the inland areas.

One structure that is said to date back to Islamic times is the old stone lighthouse that stands in the Torres Park on the prominent waterfront hill of Cartagena, near to the Castillo de la Concepción.
