Aero Modelling Centre An important gathering for aircraft modelling enthusiasts will be held on Saturday, June 3, at the Alcantarilla base, south west of Murcia City. Hundreds of enthusiasts are expected to attend from all over Spain and Europe. As some people can’t afford their own Spitfire or Eurofighter, radio control modeling provides way to get your hands on the controls of an aircraft. The hobby is very popular in Spain, as is radio controlled boat and car modeling, Howard, of Mayor-Hobbies, explained. There are several “flying fields” around, including one at Alicante, two at Guadarmar and one at Aspe. These are in areas to the north of Cartagena. However, closer to home there are, apparently, clubs in Mazarrón and at San Javier. Howard’s shop is the centre for model enthusiasts and he is happy to offer help and advice. He particularly specialises in aero modeling and can teach people how to fly their aircraft. The shop stocks all sorts of modeling essentials, including Humbrol paint. The address is Calle Mayor, number 73, Santa Pola, 03130, Alicante. The telephone number is 965 415 410 and the website is www.mayor-hobbies.com. Janette, Howard’s wife, is a specialist in dolls’ houses with a great range of houses and accessories. The dolls’ house museum at the shop features 16 beautifully detailed examples of the art. Janette makes some 500 different pieces of miniature food items. If you are really feeling flush, you can copy a recent customer who took delivery of a 16-room dolls’ house mansion costing 12,000 Euros. For more information, also see the website.
